How To Have An Eco-friendly Wedding Dress On A Budget

Some brides may be under the impression that new eco-friendly weddings gowns are less expensive than regular dresses. This could not be farther from the truth. The eco-friendly wedding gowns that are custom ordered or that you go to a shop to buy are always made from fabrics such as hemp, which is very expensive. But, the good thing is that there are other options to keeping your wedding dress “green” without buying a new one. Below are is a list of options for an eco-friendly bride who is shopping for her gown. These are places where you can get recycled gowns, that being that they have already been worn, and you are still being “green.”

How to Have an Eco Friendly Wedding Dress on a Budget

Bridal outlets:  Be sure to check out your local bridal outlets or bridal outlets online. They carry a vast array of designer gowns for a fraction of the price. Some of the dresses are third-party dresses and some are last season’s gowns that did not sell. Also keep in mind that when you go to a bridal outlet you get the same treatment as any other boutique, including a consultant.

Thrift stores: Lots of brides never think to look at their local thrift stores for a bridal gown. However, if you are having a casual wedding or vintage wedding thrifts stores could be just the place for you.  You can often find evening gowns that could double as a wedding dress, or even vintage wedding gowns that just need a little TLC and altering. Imagine the money you would be saving and still staying eco-friendly.

Consignment shops: Bridal consignment shops specialize on bridal gowns and bridesmaid dresses. This is a great place to also find a designer gown at a highly discounted price. Brides bring their gowns to these stores in hopes of selling them and getting back a little of their money. This is where you, as an eco-friendly bride, benefit. Be sure and look carefully for damage. If you spot something, consult the owner to see if it can be repaired.

Borrow a dress:  Is there a friend or relative who had a wedding where you adored their gown? Perhaps your mother or grandmother still have their wedding gowns and they just need to be altered and updated? Don’t be afraid to ask to borrow the dress for your big day. They will likely be flattered and you may be starting a new “green” tradition!
